I finally finished that pastel painting of Heinrich Hofmans painting, "Christ at 33 yrs.".
It looks better than it did before; but I am still feeling that something is not quite right with it.
This one has really been a challenge for you, hasn't it? I think you've met it very well. His eyes now look like they have seen 33 years. There's a lot more expression in his face. It may just be that the subject matter is too emotionally charged for you to ever feel completely finished.
1st Mate, thanks and I think you are right; because of the subject I really wanted it to turn out well. I also do not enjoy doing people, animals yes, people no. I don't know why; but as it was a special request I told them I would try and see what happened. They are happy with the photo of it so I will get it in the mail this week for them.

It looks great! The face has much more definition, doesn't look so flat.
