Update And Current Works In Progress

**First just a note**:
I do still have a couple of openings for commissions for pet portraits or other paintings to fill your Christmas list.  If you are interested in getting prices, etc., please email me soon as time is getting short, especially for oil paintings.  I won't be taking any more Christmas orders after December 1st/2015.

Now back to the regular blog post.

I don't have any finished works to post today; but I do have a fair amount of unfinished works in progress.

A couple can't be revealed as they are commissions for Christmas gifts.
All I can say is that they,(2), are in oil.

Now, on to regular just doing what I like paintings.
This one is about 3/4 of the way finished.  It is on a 20 x 16 inch gallery wrapped canvas and is in oils.

This one is in the ugly stage, it is just roughly blocked in.
When we were in B.C. this summer, on one of our trips, we saw this mother bear and her cub.  They were walking across the road, when someone honked their car horn at them.  They ran across the road, jumped over the barrier and then stood up and looked back over the road as if to say, what is all the fuss about.  Their pose just struck me as being funny so I thought I would try and paint them.
It is on an 8 x 10 wooden panel and is in oils.

I haven't even finished blocking this one in yet.
This summer one of the places we visited was Prince Rupert, B.C..  We watched a few seals in the harbour just hanging around waiting for a free dinner.  They did get what they were waiting for eventually; but while they were waiting they swam around and allowed us to watch them.
This is on an 8 x 10 inch wooden panel and is in oils.

So that is what I am working on.  Some day I will finish them and of course, I have other things waiting that I would like to do. It seems like I always have more ideas than energy.

Log Cabin At Lea Park # 2 (Cabin of Roy Maas)

I had done a painting of this cabin before and it sold to a niece of the original cabin owner.

This one is a commission painting that I did for another niece of the person who originally owned this cabin.  She saw the first painting I had done and also wanted one.

WIP Commission Painting

Did a little bit of work on the commission painting finally.  It has kind of been on the back burner the last week or so due to other time commitments.  Getting there slowly but surely.  It would go faster if I would quit changing my mind about things partway through.  Hmmm artistic license or lunacy?

Oil on canvas.
Size:  24 x 39 inches, 60 x 100 cms.

WIP- Commission Painting

I have been doing a bit of work on the commission painting.

The mountains are done, maybe.  The sky needs a bit of tweaking.

Today I worked on blocking  in the darks for the grass/shrub/tree areas and also worked some on the water areas.

I am leaving the 2 large trees to do last.

I was going to also block in the shadow areas on the large rock sticking up in the grassy/watery area; but I had a bit of an issue.

My easel broke.  I have cursed this easel since we bought it.  It has always been unstable and wobbly which I pretty much fixed by adding some shims at the bottom.  A couple of weeks ago the bolt type screw in thingy that holds the top canvas holder in place stripped and so I have been using it by holding the canvas firmly at the top with one hand while trying to paint with the other.
This afternoon the same type of bolt screw thingy that holds the bottom canvas holder tight also stripped and it started sliding down toward the floor.  Luckily my knees were at the same height as the holder and stopped it as I grabbed the canvas.  I was not a happy person at this point.

Tomorrow I will try and find some bolts with the same type threads and if I can't find any I may just end up having a carpenter make me a cheap; but useful tripod type one here.

Anyway here is a photo of the painting up to this point.
