Well, I have done some more work on my rendition of Heinrich Hofmans painting of, "Christ at 33 years". It may or may not be done, I will look at it for a few days and see. My non critical spouse says it is done and good. Me, well as usual I am not happy with it; but that is normal. This was way out of my comfort zone as I don't have a desire to do people and so it is harder to do.
Mine is done in soft chalk pastels on Canson pastel paper.
Size is 20 x 25 inches or approx. 50 x 63 cms..
I need some honest critique about all of the problems that I have with this.

You know I love you and your art. That said, honestly, not your best piece. I think the major problem is with the mouth and too much space between the bottom lip and the beard. Just my thought but you asked for it so there it is.
Thanks Islagringo. I really appreciate your honest feedback.
It was really hard for me to work on this piece and not being a man probably didn't help either lol.
I think there is something wrong with the size of the eyes as well. To be honest the whole face to me seems off.
On the other hand I like the shirt/shawl part lol.
Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Thanks again, Roy is not much good with critiquing me, he always thinks what I do looks good and I know it doesn't lol.
Oh, I can leave a comment now. I haven't been able to leave comments but glad I got in. I find your work always outstanding and feel the same about this piece. Perhaps a little more color on the background? I'm not good at doing a critique but I agree with Roy, it's a sensitive piece. They did a special a while back on what Jesus "really" would have looked like and he in no way resembled the Jesus that everyone paints. I need to look for that picture somewhere in my files. Excellent work to me. Take care Brenda, hope your husband is doing a lot better.

Hi Gloria, so good to have you back, I missed you!
Yes, maybe some more colour in the background would help.
I agree that the way most pictures portray Jesus is not what I would imagine he would have looked like. Being born where he was I would assume that he would have an olive complexion and dark hair among other things.
Thanks for trying to help me out with this.
Have to agree with Wayne...it might look better to have less space between the lower lip and beard.
When I do the squint test everything seems to be in proportion. I think His face lacks depth. It needs more contouring or lines around the eyes, or something. It seems a bit flat.
I do love how you always manage to create the look of individual hairs.
Thanks Barb. I might just try that and see what happens. I appreciate you trying to help. After staring at it for so long I just go blind, it sure helps to see it from someone else perspective.
Thanks again.
